let's recap the jubilee

It was a great week to be a British enthusist and I couldn't summarize the events any better then this:

Oh and the beans, THE BEANS:

I too am excited. So very excited. I laughed my balls off at these videos.

(sorry I'm 4 days late on this business)

Downton Abrys

Thanks to my good friend Y, I spent an entire weekend sick on the floor of her Blacksburg house watching Downton Abbey. It's amazing. I'm addicted, which given my Brits obsession is not surprising. Here is a parody which made me laugh:

If you haven't seen the show I doubt you are going to find this remotely funny but I like it. PLUS who doesn't love that one of the top shows out there right now is on PBS. Look thing those elephants didn't shut it down last year and really pull the funding. Bloody well done!

I'd like you better if you were british

Dear Matt,

I liked your come on let's get higher song back in the day. Actually I bought your entire album. Your new song sticks in my head. But in all honesty, I'd like you better if you were British and could speak to me with a little accent that makes my lady business melt. Yes please:

Also, I find your new facial hair a little McCreepy. It doesn't quite fit your face. Maybe it would go with some bad teeth if you were british. I'm just sayin'. You could be more like James Morrison, that soulful sexy brit.

Love,

LL

a riot update

I ranted alittle recently about the riots in London...and to recover from the uncharacteristically serious post I have some updates on the action in my beloved city.

First, I found video of a more thoughtful subtle approach to sticking it to the man:

Take that establishment!!! Put your garbage somewhere else, you bitch. This guy is the most laid back rioter, much more up my alley. Not sure what you can loot in this situation though...probably have to steal the other trash can!

Second, I hear that some Londoners are kind of pissed that the po-po can't get there act together. And we know they can do it. Case and point, that billion person attended Royal Wedding. Well this is pretty accurate:

Funny Somewhat Topical Ecard: Sorry the world paid more attention to the royal wedding than to your entire country being set on fire.

there will be nothing left of london

Unless you have been living in a hole, you probably know that there has been some crazy business going on in London recently. The rioters and looters have taken over parts of the city, and apparently not for any consistent reason. Protesting without a common message basically becomes breaking and entering and stealing. I mean look at the 70s, they had a common theme "Peace, love, and weed".

I love me some London and it saddens me deeply that the authorities cannot get ahold of the situation. Some of the pictures are truly scary. Please stop and take stock of what you are doing and why.

I grew up in a community which had some major riot issues, mostly fueled by dumbassery and booze. I've been in situations where the police provided escorts for school buses, and fathers stood in the bus doors to protect teenagers. And when I was in college we experienced roits again, where I would tackle my guy friends who thought it was a good idea to go watch. Nope, sorry, watching is participating and will only cause more problems.

You are making a choice. You can take the Martin-Luther-King route and rise above your basic urges. You do not have to governed by emotions. Emotion regulation is not just something important for preschool, but also adults (especially in situations where asshats are running lose in the general population).

I do believe in protests but they have be to organized and purposeful, otherwise you are simply ruining your community in the physical structure (burning building costs money), in taxes (which are going straight to the authorities who are trying to stop you), and in the air of fear (perceptions of safety is key). Riots do nothing for community building. Business suffer too, case and point this London restaurant:

This wry apology left in the window of a British Subway is bad news for anyone who likes to enjoy a meatball sub while watching a double-decker bus burst in a terrifying inferno. It seems would-be patrons of this establishment have a better chance of finding a toasted building here than a toasted foot-long. While I certainly enjoy the display of that famous dark British "humour" whoever wrote this missed a prime opportunity to direct looters toward the nearest Quizno's.

Also on the lighter side, is anyone concerned what global image these riots are leaving on all nations participating in the upcoming Olympics??? Who wants to visit a city that cannot control their citizens, where no one feels safe. Perhaps this should be the new Olympics logo:

Damn thieves!!! Some roided up athlete is going to catch you for stealing the rings...

the new Coldplay song makes me happy

I cannot get this song out of my head. It makes me smile. It makes me want to dance around my office. Coldplay continues to amaze, this is a great song:

not sure you heard, there was a royal wedding

So last Friday, not sure if you heard this, but a big royal wedding happened in London. Apparently over 2 million (insert evil pinky finger to the chin) people in the US watched and give more than two shits about the event--and this was a 4 AM start time EST. This is rivaling the amount of people who take the day off for the opening night of the Twilight movies. Talk about a serious drain on the economy, that is, if it wasn't for all the damn merchandise.

Despite these epic numbers, some people apparently didn't want to be there. Take this child for example....clearly forced to be present and not happy about it. Always a bridesmaid, never a princess. Tell me about, story of my life:

Well the fashion was amazing, as expected. Kate wore the McQueen infused dress that was both classic and modern. Nice work. Although I would have enjoyed more "gaga" inspiration. Also noteworthy were the hats, ohhhh the **womanity of british hats. I really wish those hats were an American tradition because I would totally rock out with some wirey feathered thing protruding from my melon. Seriously sexy.

Speaking of fashion, I couldn't help but notice that the Queen looked a little like JC minus the green eye shadow:

http://www.bestweekever.tv/bwe/images/2011/04/Queen-Smokin-1304105596.jpg

Yes the likeness is uncanny. SMOKIN!!!

The wedding went off without a hitch, and what I enjoyed the most is that it was personalized for the couple. Despite the news coverage and epic traditions, they seemed to squeak in some personal touches that was just for them. They looked so happy. Not forced or uncomfortable. I really liked this. However, it should be noted that there is no way in hell that my wedding will not have beer, even if some people think it is not "classy" enough (I say beer for everyone).

Also, THANK GOD the big BO announced the death of Bin Laden this week and not last, otherwise we would have had no wedding coverage. 10-yr-most-wanted-terrorist-killed VS. once-every-30-years-royal-wedding. Wonder who would have own the battle for the front page?

**That is for you, M & T. You're welcome.

I cannot stop

listening to this new Adele song. I love her, always have. She is so soulful and an amazing British artist. You can here this song on her new album, which is just as good (or better) than her debut. This song has been playing on repeat in my head:

a new perspective on the royal wedding

Tyler, the apparent creator of odd future (whatever the hell that is), does not give a shit about the royal wedding. Well this is a new perspective, considering I read that the silver fox (aka, Anderson Cooper) and the older babs (aka, Barbara Walters) are already in London to cover the madness this Friday. I mean, these are like forreals news outlets and not just E! The world is all wrapped up in this business but Tyler could give two shits. Thank god for NME magazine and their crunk coverage:

10 days away, reaching epic proportions

Well we are t minus 10 days away from the epic-ness of this century's royal wedding. I've mentioned previously (here and here--and no I won't eat green eggs there) that the world is getting alittle out of control with all this royal marriage business. I'm obsessed, obviously, but who knew the fever would catch on world-wide like this.

Recently, we learned more about what Kate will be wearing. Apparently the designer studied with Alexander McQueen, and you know what that could mean??? I DO!!! She might wear his shoes made famous by the Lady (here or here). Hopefully McQueen's influence will shine through and Kate will just wear meat. I bet the Queen would like that. Her and Bill are bound to get Duked (as in "I'm now the Duke of London, bitches") if that happened.

I think the better question is what will Sir Elton John be wearing??? Two-parter, will he show up the bride??? I bet he'll have more sparkles on him than Ke$ha and/or Kate (and/or strippers). I'm excited to see what's wearing who, and how many crazy hats those brits come up with! Think of the wedding-blissed-out-aero-dynamical-possibilities. Endless.

One particular part of the marital crazy that caught my eye was....ready for it: ROYAL CONDOMS. Yikes. That is like the Tiger Wood's vibrater. And I bet you can guess what they are coining them, "Royal Jewels." Nice. Apparently when you buy these condoms you also get a collectible portrait of the couple, which is definitely an added bonus to the condoms. So just lie back and think of England. If they don't work you can always name the child either Willie or Katie. Works for me.

Who wants to take off work to watch the 24/7 live coverage??? Yes please.

yikes, not nearly as sexy

Well I'm a Clive Owen fan. This is not a secret. I mean clearly, he is some tall British eye candy. Again I repeat how is that one small island can produce so many things I love? I remember back in the "Inside Man" days (best. movie. ever.), I used to have this photo saved on my desktop for weeks.

Imagine my disappointment when I ran across this photo recently of Mr. Owen:

So yes I'm a fan of the moustache (Thanks G for the newest link), but this is not a good choice on my former crush. Please just say no (or stay out of public). I hope this is for a movie role, and not fo reals. Clive has grown a bad stache, and apparently a molester haircut to go with it. I mean I can't even get a good "handlebar ride" on that. Weak.

Maybe I should just stick with Lee Pace and his piano playing for alittle longer.

and she can flip a pancake

As I've mentioned the world is slightly obsessed the spring wedding of Ms. Kate and one of the British princes. They have been working hard in planning the big day and approving their couple coin and plate. Personally the image on that coin will continue to haunt me for the rest of the day, and I heard that the couple and the Queen approved it! I'd be like....hmmmm.....hells no.

But I digress. As part of their prenuptial secret publicity tour, the couple landed in Northern Ireland earlier this week. In the receiving line apparently they started flipping pancakes with some kids. Why these kids had pancakes and skillets are still unknown. FAT TUESDAY??? Pancakes for everyone! Next time we'll have to get them to jump rope, or make an omelet, or make me a pie, or something just as equally strange:

Also, on the Ms. Kate note, she has been totally changing the British fashion scene, and I LOVES IT!!! Whenever she steps out, all the retail sales of what she is donning shoot through the roof. Seriously, she has taken the typical over-sized British hat (which I secretly love) and brought it down a notch to a lovely feather headband.

I really don't hate to say this, but I have been sporting these headbands for about a year now!!! Kate, maybe we need to chat??? I'll bring you around and class it up (because "classy" is my middle name despite what you mayyyy have heard). I predict that in two months she'll be wearing small pops of lace in normal outfits. You heard it hear first. Stay tuned.

PS, in their vein, I wonder if frying pans are expected to make a jump after yesterday? :)

I can't get enough

I just can't get enough of my current (for the last 6 months) music of the moment, the a-mazing Mumford and Sons. The irish feel, the british accents, and thoughtful lyrics....yes please. I feel like I'm back in Ireland, drinking my dinner and getting caught by the garda on a roof of a bar:

performance of the night

Nope it was Gaga and her egg, or Christina and her fall, or any of the noteable upsets....instead a major tip of my hat goes to the 8 minute performance by my fav Brit band, Mumford & Sons (although I do love Muse too and they staged a revolution). Mumford performance by themselves and then brought out the Avett Bros (GO COCKS!!!) and the legendary B-O-B. A-mazing:

(sorry for the pink, it was the only full video posted the day after)

PS, on the awards upset note, look at Arcadian Fire beating Lady Gaga and Esperanza Spalding beating the Bieb. Wowsa. Never would have guessed that.

PPS, I can honesty die happy after hearing this performance, listening to all the instruments, the cellos, and lyrics. Love it. Brings me so much happiness.

I need some princess lessons too

Sooo the world is in big preparation for the royal spring wedding, and I absolutely love it. As you know, I heart me some brits...the music, the accent, the culture....so of course, I'm interested in the royal event. Just think of the hats, oh the hats!

Well I just read that the bride-to-be Miz Kate has to take "princess" lessons, you know so she knows how to sit properly (crossed at the ankles) and how to wave (elbow, elbow, wrist, wrist). I guess she will also learn matters of charity work, and how to escape out the back door (of restaurants, not after late night visits--this is the royal family for christsake not the Hiltons).

I'd be happy to take some princess lessons and put my pirate/sailor talking days (years? entire life?) behind me. Sign me up bitches!

is england the same as great britian?

Wellll I ran across this video that thoroughly explains the differences between England, Great Britain, and the United Kingdom. I mean it all sounds the same to me, for example, I absolutely, positively love your music, your accent, your capital (London calling?) and wish that I could spend the rest of my horribly boring life in a small flat in England/Great Britain/United Kingdom. Yes please.

So if you care and/or are confused, this video can be very very informative:

I do wish that the guy explaining all thi crap had that lovely British accent so that I would want to jump his bones; istead this sounds like some know-it-all American dude.

England, so tiny, so amazing, soooo powerful and lovely. Someone hire me there plllllease.

PS, note that they mention all the "British" islands in the caribean and what that means. Wonderfully, I've visited some of them and been eaten alive for weeks on end.

music of the moment

I'm being a radio rockstar this AM....yep if you are up, catch me on WNRN from 6-9 AM EST. This is the acostic sunrise show, and I do sometimes love the music (especially Mumford & Sons, and Florence+her machine). Today I heard this song and it reminded me how much I love those British musicans. I have Adele's freshman album and am greatly aniticipating her sophomore out later this month. Here is the hot hot hot title track which really gets me going:

She is amazing. Plus I love normal sized people in the mainstream media. Lovely.

for helga and you cat lovin fools

So my lovely Helga keeps sending me these stupid cat videos where they play the piano or stuff themselves in a box. All things that make me want to throw up a little in my mouth. BUT I just found a cat video I could get on board with. This one has a British accent (yes please), has swearing (give me more), and involves office-related humor. I can't tell you how often this shit happens in my office, minus the cat. Brilliant and for you, Helga:

Looking forward to rubbing my feet on you in just 7 mere days!!!! See, I'm dry humping you virally right now. HOT!!!

UPDATE: Ash, my office-mate, just IMed to add this amazing comment:
  • "that is so you in cat form!! hahah"
  • Apparently she can totally see me saying "what do you mean no paper - theres a whole bloody ream!"

music of the moment

You all know I've a lover of many British bands and singers. I recently discovered Florence + The Machine and have decided they pretty much rock. She recently secured a spot on the upcoming VMAs, and I guarantee she will give you human bumps. Here is a sample:
