prisoner make MJ tribute

Remember those Phillianaianain prisoners who made a courtyard video of MJ's thriller??? Well it made the internets round back in the day:

And now as MJ has passed on, they did a tribune video. Who do you think helps with their dances? There has to be some gay dancing in there, hating that they have to wear orange everyday. Enjoy Gail:

newest ugliest dog

Well they recently announced the new ugliest dog in the world, and in my professional opinion it pales in comparison to last year's winner...

Last year's winner:

This year's winner:

WHAT???? This dog isn't ugly. This dog just has some wicked teeth!!!! Pabst just has an underbite. I know plenty of boxer-mixes like this one....Jack up in MN to name one! This dog isn't ugly. There has to be some three legged awesome dog out there last the little one that has won the last couple years. Perhaps the contest was rigged, or I might just have to demand a recount. Probably was the hanging chads.

new inventions I can get behind

Here is a new invention I can get behind:

Having to go find a tissue or keeping a box by your desk is now too costly and time-consuming. Clearly having something strapped to your head is much much better :)

its been a bad week

Well it's been a bad week....we lost ed, farrah, and MJ....and now the Billy Mays was found dead. This guy always pitched all the Oxiclean products and other crap mail-order things.

It has not been a good week.....please drive safe folks!

focus groups

Well I've been running around like a chicken without her head this week, preparing for today's focus group. We have 6 local teachers coming into today to hear the content we've been writing for the last couple months. Of course, I'm now the official inCLASS spokesperson and face of the training, so there is no way I can get out of being involved in this process.

Yesterday around 5 pm I was running between our buildings, sweating my balls off, and dragging 50 pound portable projection screens. I sort of wanted to kill myself. But I got everything ready, need to pick up lunch at Panera, but we will make it (provided the teachers show up).

Other good news, which has added to my stressie week, is that we just officially heard word that we got the supplement summer grant from NIH. Of course they gave us about $60,000 less than we budgeted but money is money (especially when coming from the government). So of course, despite my many protests, I've taken over that grant and budget, and am frantically trying to hire people! Ahhhh the bureaucracy of academia.

Andddd Head Start proposals are due next week, and I have to finish writing the summary statement for the paper symposium we put together and are resubmitting for this meeting. 2 new people starting next week, and 2 full days of leading trainings for them and other new students. By 4th of July I'm really really going to be ready to rest and relax.

OK I'll stop by damn bitching....

a church rant

So I volunteer to be on a local Cville community child care executive board which works between a local church and preschool. Tonight we had a meeting, which is typically attended by way too many whiney church ladies, some preschool staff, the church pastor, and a couple community members (myself included). And I'm sure you can imagine that many of these meetings permit the whiney church ladies to reminance about the good old days, and how things used to be run. For about 60 of the 90 minutes you want to kill youself.

On this note, and on a related church rant, I grow tired of churchs that are run this way. Many churches fail to realize that it is a business, for lack of a better term. If you have grounds, space, and are collecting money, it is a business. And many of the operations should be run that way. I acknowledge, whole-heartedly, that often times these organizations are run and lead by volunteers but that does not negate the fact that often times decisions to be made that are of a business mind. Many seminaries do not teach their leaders how to do this....it is not a class they take or a necassary skill to have in order to be a church leader, and this can be a real problem.

So for this reason, I am not a huge fan of this church's pastor (her and multiple other pastors from churchs I've attended who have interests beyond the congretation and what is good for the parish). Although I do not attend this church on Sundays, I am happy to volunteer for their board and help out with their preschool as needed. I learned tonight that apparently this pastor is not a fan of mine either. She repeatedly interrupts and contridicts my friends, which I have largely ignored, but she really pissed me off today.

Today I wore a white skirt, a red t-shirt and a white cover up. The red t-shirt, which I just recieved as a gift, had a blue rocket on it and small letters that said "pale ale" for a brewery in Duluth, MN. Yes I know it is a beer shirt but with the cover up no one would know (and I wore it to work today too). Well apparently this offended the paster. After the meeting tonight she made a comment about how it took some guts to wear a pale ale shirt to a church meeting. I told her that is what I wore to work today and it was just me....who I was. Afterwards, I realized she was being way more rude and I should have said back to her "I'm sorry I didn't realize that volunteers at your church had a dress code for tuesday night meetings....the church I go to accepts people no matter what they look like....I hate to think what your requirements are for Sunday mornings"

Pissed me off. Hells bells there wasn't a bottle of beer on the shirt or anything that apparent. Next month I'm going to wear my Irish FECK shirt and see what the fat cow does then. She'll probably shit a brick. I don't think you should really be putting down your volunteers, especially when they just sat through 90 minutes of a meeting that could have been a total of 30 minutes. Especially when I was volunteering to help out multiple times throughout the meeting.

That lady can suck it, and see if I give two shits if she doesn't like my "pale ale" t-shirt. Stuipd church people.

I just got a little ring

So here I sit on T & D's front patio (because the back is full of mosquitos) watching all the cars going by way too fast for the 25 mph road. I'm just watering the yard and doing laundry, and out of no where some biker comes riding down the road pretty fast. I look up and as he goes by he rings his little bike bell twice. I'm assuming that equivalent to getting honked at in a car, or getting whistled at by a construction site. I'm telling ya, it made me laugh....ring, ring and a smile. Damn that guy should turn around and come back for a glass of wine. He can park his bike next to the burnt glass plastic pinto. That too would be hot :)

Teheheheh

new moon cover

So I hate to admit this, I mean really seriously do, but I'm officially a Twillight fan. I don't know why and I wish I hadn't started those damn books, but they have sucked me in and now I'm just as bad as those tweens I make of across the country. I even got excited at the new book over and am anticipating the new movie released over thanksgiving. Someone stop the madness please (although Sam and Josh should be happy I'm reading!!!!). Still it's just shameful. I've now finished all 4 and a 1/2 books in two weeks.....

RIP Ed

So Ed McMahon passed away last night...the legend used to work with Johnny Carson and may other special appearances. Here is a classic with Jerry Lewis:

RIP Ed.

come on BK, really?

Really? Seriously? Any dirrrrty minded person could have come up with this ad campaign...."BK's super 7 incher that will blow your mind away" I've been changing people's cell phone welcome screens to say "12 incher" for years now....not very creative BK.

Thanks Helga.

all women need a little Kush support

What is Kush support you ask??? Well it is for women with some big girls to support while they are sleeping. I never knew that I wasn't sleeping well because I got a good pair of the D's to support. Hmmm. I wonder what else could be used instead of the original Kush?? A rolled up pair of socks? Yeah you can just let your imagination roll with that one.....

Please don't buy this for me!

Rihanna appears and Chris pleads guilty

So Rihanna appeared in court yesterday in LA and her formal boyfriend pleaded guilty this time. If you missed all the drama earlier this spring, both R&B rappers/singers were in a "fight" the night before the grammy's. Actually I think it was more like Chris beat the crap out of Rihanna. Pictures surfaced of her face all bruised and broken. She has handled the entire situation with tons of class. Chris is going to stay out of jail but will be doing some community service, which should be interesting. Glad this resolved with at least some consequences. And Rihanna was looking good in court yesterday:

children's movies are getting scrarer

What the hell happen to happy-go-lucky children's movies???? Now it is all about death and heart-ache!!! The children in my movie theater were crying during Up, well I suppose there were adults crying too (although not me, I trying to crawl out of my skin). And now I saw the pictures coming out for the new Alice in Wonderland movie. Scarey.....doesn't this just have an It feeling about it....

BURTON WONDERLAND.jpg

Well I'll admit that this is a Tim Burton movie so it will probably make most children shit in their pants....but seriously there is a little bit of Carrot Top in that picture too. Yikes!!!

And you know what, they consider Harry Potter a children's movie too and my ma can't even watch it. Telling you, they are getting scarer.

sad, sad indeed

I concur with Betty on this one, this is a big loss for humanity....the inventor of the vibrating magic fingers bed has passed on. This brilliant man was apparently tinkering around in basement back in 50's when he had the idea. Vibrating beds!!!!! I wonder what he was tinkering around with??? I'm just saying. This sounds like a very Grandpa Stiefel type of thing to be screwing around with.....wonder what the motivation was???

My only real memory of vibrating beds was at the pink flamingo motel in Coeur Alene, and I got my ma laughing so hard that she almost wet her pants. Our goal was to sneak into the other room and turn on the vibration in the middle of the night.....ahhhh good times.

more new branding

Soooo I've found it funny how celebrities and politicians these days are all about branding their names. Either they have perfumes, restaurants, clothing lines, or booze where they are tying their name to. Re-branding is everywhere in these days of manic technology and increased media.

Well some of the world' most notable restaurants are immune to this.....last week Pizza Hut announced their new branding effort. Instead of being "Pizza Hut" they are now called "the Hut." They claim this will appeal to a new generation of people, it is for the texting generation. You know the kid who are so damn lazy that they can't type out "p-i-z-z-a hut." U know, btw, they can just say "meet u @ the hut." It is just so much quicker that way!

A new name and a new adventure into the pasta realm. I've sure you've seen their commerials for those "blind" taste tests.

a goodie

You have heard of this, but thanks to CKW I had a good laugh this morning:

A Madison , SD policeman had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but wasn't getting many. Then he discovered the problem--a 12-year-old boy was standing up the road with a hand painted sign, which read 'RADAR TRAP AHEAD.' The officer also found the boy had an accomplice who was down the road with a sign reading 'TIPS' and a bucket full of money. (And we used to just sell lemonade!)

weather

I find it particularly funny that I don't follow the weather at all! I generally wait for someone from my family to call me to tell it is going to rain in VA today. That is why I have family with cable and the weather channel, so I can always be pleasantly surprised with my life and the weather. Isn't great when you get stuck in a thunder storm? Yes yes cloudy weather is always better than sunny weather.

Well anyways, my ma just called from a call in Indiana and she knew more about the weather happening in VA than I did. How sad is that????

worse wheel o' fortunes

What are the top 10 dumbest moments from Wheel 'o Fortune???? None of these I really knew but as I watched them I realized how kind of dumb I was too....I mean not all of them, but some I had no idea!

I do remember a bunch of the Price is Right moments. Like when crazy people run down the aisle and lose their shit. That is funny.

OK apparently I have a sick sense 'o humor today!

new survey relating to Lupus

The LFA just announced new international survey research that highlights some of the struggles Lupus patients face in their everyday life. Well besides the obvious, 84% of the US sample reported that lupus has affected their career, of that 44% reported a highly significant affect. And approximately 29% were unemployed due to complications of the disease. That sucks!

Interestingly, 95% reported their most common symptom as fatigue. I can attest to that!!!

more cute children

Ahhh my friend Adam just stopped by to visit me at work and brought his new baby!!! She is adorable....check out the pictures!!!

if I were her rent I would be proud

So some Iowa tween won the world's fastest texting contest....yep, bet you didn't know there was such a thing. As a matter of fact there is, and the winner got $50,000. Makes you want to sharpen up your texting skills doesn't it????? Yeah not really.

She has to compete for speed and accuracy in her texting, and she also had to do it in a swimsuit and in evening wear. She was also asked some difficult questions about opposite-sex marriage, but she answered via text. OK OK only kidding. But apparently this girls sends like 40,000 texts a month.....so she really needs that $50,000 for her phone bill!!!!!

Still not a hardcore supporter of texting.

BO has cat-like reflects

Wow, watch BO kill a fly out of the thin air. I swear, he has some cat-like reflects and kills the damn fly with his bare hands....beware folks! That is just crazy

Flies aren't the only things getting injured around DC....apparently Hillary took a fall yesterday and broke her elbow!!!! And not too long ago, supreme court nominee Sotomayer broke her ankle!!! For christ sake, can you people just be careful!!! Take some calcium and try to build up your bone strength....all the women in power being being injured one by one!

HP theme park

Well hells bells I didn't know that there was a Harry Potter theme park in development. Go figure it is in Orlando, FL, home of all theme parks. I wish it was somewhere else! But it is under construction and coming along apparently. This thing is going to be huge and massive. Not my type of thing but it will make TONS of money. Seriously how rich is JKR now??? I bet that original publishing company is still kicking it self for not taking her books back in the day. This series is just going to go on and on and on.

And on another HP note.....can't wait for the new movie to come out! 29 days left. I might see it multiple times and it may warrant a trip to the iMAX. Just serving warning folks. Also Warner Bros. in their opening weekend blockbuster glory, has bumped the release date to the 15th now, so you can now officially see it on Tuesday night at 12 midnight. Craziness. Here is the newest trailer, I believe it is the 4th:

taylor stetching her skillz

Taylor Swift, you know the talented tween country star, is stretching her skillz to the max. and I'm loving it! I've been saying it for years that country is more pop and rock than ever. There are no more Johnny Cash's out there. Once Tim McGraw crossed over with Nelly (which I loved too), it was all down hill from there. Well Taylor Swift is joining the pack....

Here is her rap debut in T-pains new video....you have to admit this is great:

And last night during the CMTs she performed with Def Leoppard and it was hot (although she didn't sound that great):

And don't forget about my favorite performance of her's from last year....this still gives me human bumps!!!

She is pretty talented, writing her own music (and songs for Miley), and playing all the instruments herself.

UVA nerd/model

So some hot neuroscientist here at UVA is now a reality star / model (though I have to comment that who isn't a reality start these days!) and is getting some press around Cville. And the UVA community, it all of it's infinite money and wisdom, is mixed in their feelings about this....Some claim he is the world's hottest nerd....and others think it is a disgrace to UVA. Apparently we can be hot and smart all in one package!!!! (hehehe, I can attest to that! only kidding).

Here are some great comments:
  1. "you know, I really don’t think this is the sort of story that best showcases the prospects and possibilities afforded to those who seek to pursue the intellectual and professional possibilities afforded to U.Va. students. Truly, I would think that my alma mater is above touting the success of one of its students as a reality television star. Frankly, it’s rather gauche." (SPEAK ENGLISH, for god sake, I don't even know what you just said!)
  2. "How entirely unsurprising. An assortment of graduates that are getting their butt hurt over this person having fun with his life."
Hahahahah, this is great! Makes me laugh, these east coasters....

something new to dance to

I'm digging it....

Perriello stepping out

Oh Tom you sexy bitch!!! OK OK not appropriate, I know.

PS22 Chorus

I love these guys! I've seen their videos before but they just keep making really good ones. This is like the "take the lead" story in the NYC public schools, where there is some teacher who really has a passion for his art. First it was Pierre Dulaine and ballroom dancing, and now we have Gregg with his fabulous 5th grade chorus.....I have been following his via his blog and youtube channel. This guy gets it (both is ways of motivating children, but also in his use of technology and pop culture...he and BO get it) and is doing amazing positive youth development work. Here are some of there performances:

On man, it was just last week that we were in Ev's massive truck with my head out the window and my fist pumping the air, to that song!!!! Liiiiving in a lonely world.....

Or this is another PS22 goodie:

This has such a Sister Act feel to it....and you KNOW how much I love Sister Act!!!! Yeah!!!! I love it.

palin vs. letterman

Well if you weren't paying any attention this week, Gov. Palin was back on the attack and this time she was fueding with of all people, Dave Letterman. The late night comendian made some poor jokes about her family being in NYC and her daughters being knocked up, and she reacted. And she should have reacted...for her family but not politically!

Palin, of course, brought this into the political realm which is where it really really doesn't need to be. Gov. Palin acts like she is a celebrity and not a politician, although I'll admit those lines seem more blurred these days. I don't care that she has issues with late night comedians....I care what she thinks about BO's new healthcare plan. Do you have anything to say about that??? What about any comments on the Iranian elections this week?

Perhaps, if you are still considering running for national office again, you should bone up on your politic knowledge and agenda. Because, as we learned this week, the elephants don't really have a clear leader right now.

seagulls helping out Cleveland

Well crap....a flock of seagulls were just hanging out the other night at a baseball game and at the bottom of the 10th inning a line drive went by the outfielder after the damn ball hit a bird. You can't even make this shit up! Yeah the bird got hit and changed the direction the ball was going so that the outfielder missed it. So the Indians won because of that. Why can't this shit happen in favor of any MI teams???? Seriously.

Check out the video!

PETA ain't going to like that! Protect seagulls!!!

sportin the pornstache

Well a bunch of people have been sportin' the pornstache lately, and I'm not just talking about Hulk Hogen (and his fanny packs), but cuties like Orlando Bloom and Brad Pitt.

It was then no surprise to me that Michael Phelps showed up for practice the other day in the pool with his very own version of the pornstache. Good for him.....handlebar rides anyone???? Except MP got a little more creative and added a soul patch as well. Cue the porn music, Michael is back and he isn't shaving! Baachic-bong-bong.

Wahoooooo! I don't think I'd be able to grow one, but here's hoping that some of the men in my life will start. You could grow a mullet to match!!!!

music of the moment

Loving the new stuff by Parachute:

news of the last couple days...

  1. My garden is growing like it's on roids (well it kind of is). I have a 4 incher cuc and lots of decilious tomatoes. Picked another large portion of basil and cilantro the other day.
  2. I have a new addiction, and it is similar to all the HP books.....can you guess? I read Twillight on my way to Seattle, half of it again while in Seattle, and the second book within 24 hours of returning (do you know how many pages of reading that is for me???? Like over a 1000, sammy sam and josh would be so proud!!!!). I also read half of the leaked copy of the 5th book, midnight sun. This is beginning to control my life and I need to stop because I can't focus on anything else.
  3. I broke my summer promise, and its only June, regarding retail therapy....see #2 above, needed a distraction.....but I did get some good deals, does that count?
  4. My body is still kind of rejecting me....my stomach always hurts after I eat which has become problematic as I'm not eating as much....and I'm not sure if my hair is still falling out.
  5. The Red Wings lost the stanley cup....damnit can't MI/dtw just catch a break!?!?!?! MSU basketball was so close to a national championship and so were the wings, but all we got in MI is bailouts and bankruptcies.
  6. The plastic pinto got some new oil yesterday and she is one sexy running machine. She may get her windows tinted in the next two weeks.....stay tuned.
  7. I'm off to work today since I left early on Friday (see #2 above) and was jet legged on Thursday. I've got to get focused otherwise this will be a long week :)

great trip to seattle

So I spent most of the last week and last weekend in the great city of Seattle! Ahhh I love Seattle and generally the state of WA. I've always said that state is like 5 geographic states put into one. It is beautiful and amazing.

Last weekend I flew in, after sitting next to a family of 7 who were Twilight series fans and headed to Folks, WA (boy will they be surprised that is actually a really small town of nothing!). I took the ferry, and apparently I am like McDreamy because I absolutely love the water and boooats, to Blueberry (really Bainbridge) island. Scott picked me up there and drove me to their new house where I got to hang out with the twins, now two sets, for a good 12 hours. We saw their new house and I got lots of children time.

Here are the two boys, Kyle and Andrew, and me. My favorite part of the trip was when Andrew turned to me during Sunday morning breakfast to say "Leslie you are special." Ohhh boy kid, in more ways than one, let me tel you. I squeezed my fat ass in between the new car seats in the mini-van:

Sunday I made it to the Mariner's/Twin's game with the fam. We had excellent seats in the shade the entire time and unfortunately the twins lost:

Graduation day came quick and we were running around town picking up other family members and getting everything in order for the big ceremony. I got to spend alot of time with Ev, before he heads off to Basics, which was a main goal of mine for this trip. He has a great new apartment, and is doing wonderful. I got to hang out with Larry too, which I thoroughly enjoyed because he cracks me up!

Sneaky pete (who is a tall bean pole now) and Robin (who amazed us all by actually getting on a plane and taking a vacation):

Congrats to Sneaky Pete!!!! Try to stay out of trouble in those frat houses on the UW campus!!!

elephants are down on themselves

A newly released Gallup polls shows that those elephants are really down on themselves!!! GWB just beat them down into the ground. Zexy Palin gave them a rise for awhile and they are just feeling down and out.....pity party for the GOP!!! Sucks that about 60% of people see the elephant party as unfavorable (see graph below). Over 50% of elephants couldn't name an individual who speaks for their party....yikes, that is no good. No one is thinking Steele or McCain or Palin or GWB????

your next gift from me

Ahhh I love these commercials.....the comfort wipe, so you don't have to wipe your ass by yourself. I've always wanted a pole to assist me. I like the guy who says "being a big guy has it's advantages [like beating up on little children], but also it's disadvantages [like not being able to turn to wipe my own ass]" Well thank god for the comfort wipe....now I can maintain my dignity (as if I had any before now)!

green tea coke

Yikes! Coke is launching a new flavored of soda, and it is going to be nasty!!!! Yep it is green tea flavored.....and their target market is 20's and 30 somethings. I fit that margin and I'm not about all that business. Although I don't mind green tea ice cream, I don't think I can do it in soda.

The kicker is Pepsi is getting ready to launch something comparable.....basil flavored!!! Grossss!

zack morris returns

angelina is writing too

Not only does Angelina Jolie have 6 children, is a good actress, and surpassed Oprah for Forbes #1 most powerful person, she is also a writer. She recently wrote an article about the Darfur conflict and the Sudanese president as the UN is about to receive an important and influential report.

I mean good for her and all her (and her family's) good deeds. I mean she has proved me wrong when years ago I called out that this "good-natured" business won't last. I mean the woman used to wear a vial of her partner's blood around her neck.

But you got to give her some props for the work she is doing now....

faith leaders come out in support

Faith leaders from all denominations came out in support of opposite marriage in DC this week. 100+ local leaders marched in support of gay marriage, in contrast to all anti-marriage marches that have been happening in DC lately.

It is really nice to see faith group supporting equality and marriage!

I heart conan

I have always thought Conan was a funny Big Bird looking irish dude who makes me laugh....like last night during his first Tonight's Show:

RUN, conan, RUN!!!!

national donut day

So June 5th (this Saturday) is national donut day:

You go out and get yourself some Dunkin Donuts and some Krispy Kremes...I personally don't enjoy donuts but that doesn't mean you can't get some :)

They are giving them away for freebiessss!

susan was robbed

So you may have been living in a hole if you didn't know about Britian's Got Talent's Susan Boyle!!! She is an amazing singer who stunned the entire world with this performance:

Well unfortunately she came in second in the competition and now is resting in private clinic for exhaustion. She is going to need some professional help if she wants to be in the entertainment industry.

Some young crap dance group won and broke Susan's heart. She was robbed! Listen to this lady!!!! She is a nut ball and I love it.

licence to kill in popsicle form

A british fruit smoothie company has decided, in it's infinite amount of wisdom, to make a Daniel Craig 007 popsicle. Yes that is right ladies, you can lick and enjoy all the grape flavored goodness of James Bond's shirtless body on a stick! Perhaps more men should come shirtless and on a stick....I can see these just selling out at british picnic's and bbq's. Little girls will be agruing over which shirtless version to get....riiiiiight!

Daniel Craig smoothie lolly

All I want to know is where are those hands???? I mean they couldn't come up with a better place to put his 007 hands then into his crotch. Perhaps this should be an X rated popsicle.....I'm just saying!
