music of the moment

I'm being a radio rockstar this AM....yep if you are up, catch me on WNRN from 6-9 AM EST. This is the acostic sunrise show, and I do sometimes love the music (especially Mumford & Sons, and Florence+her machine). Today I heard this song and it reminded me how much I love those British musicans. I have Adele's freshman album and am greatly aniticipating her sophomore out later this month. Here is the hot hot hot title track which really gets me going:

She is amazing. Plus I love normal sized people in the mainstream media. Lovely.

no chicken dinner

Well god damnit...I was NO winner winner, and got no chicken dinner this AM. As I mentioned previously, I was signed up to compete in a segment on a local D-town radio station this morning. In preparation I was reading even more celebrity gossip this weekend, and got up early to make my 6:30 AM wake up call.

All I had to do was answer 5 celebrity BS question and bet the radio DJ. I ended up tying her because I made some fatal mistake. During a simple Lady Gaga question I said "let's dance" instead of "just dance." What a douche! Stupid mistake. Also, I was frantically trying to google f-ing big O's decorator, but I couldn't spell it right!!! Damn English language, kills me every time.

If you want to hear my performance, check out this link. If it doesn't work check out their podcast page and search for "Smarter than Shannon" on 9/13/10. You can hear me tie the host which is basically losing. No D-town prizes for me. Maybe next time!

Good fun either way....

radio rockstar (and not getting paid)

So many you know I started, and then shortly quitttted, a local radio show job. I got recruited by my good friend, B, to help out reading and writing the morning news. I figured, well this shit will be fun and easy....turns out it totally sucks my balls. Seriously, lots of work and no where near fun. So I've tried to professionally get myself out of that the last month between work travels and funerals. I think the news director thinks I hate him or the station--really I don't, I just am not down with volunteering for 6 hours a week at 5 AM while being brow beaten by various people...

Anywho, on the radio front, I am a technology/podcast fan. I podcast the shit out of various radio shows, tv shows, the white house, and other things that exponentially enhance my life. Case and point, the Detroit (aka d-town) local radio show. In my mornings and evenings, I listen to these 5-10 minute shows and one of my favorite sessions is called "Smarter than Shannon." This is where listeners try to beat this morning DJ on 5 celebrity BS questions. It is great, I play along and mostly beat the contestents but rarely beat the DJ.

So this AM, say 7 ish this morning, I was listening and they had a "what I hate about the show" segment, which I had some to add to. I decided, on a whim because I never do this, to email the show to tell to to stop saying "GOOD LUCK GURRRL" during this celebrity gossip knowledge competition (it would annoy the hell out of me). Turns out in the 5 minutes it took me to walk from my house to work before 8 AM the chick (aka, Shannon) emailed me back from d-town!!!! HOLY BALLS.

After a couple rounds of emails she asked me to participate with her next week in the celebrity BS competition. Well this sounds like something WAYYYY more up my alley. So my D-town radio rockstar show down is officially scheduled for 6:30 AM on Monday morning. Here's hoping I'll be the 5th person in over 90 attempts to beat her....don't hold your damn breath though (she knows way more useless shit than I do)! I'm going to have to bone up on some BS news this weekend and pray for questions I know that she doesn't know!

More info to come....

radio rockstar

Soooo for those that do not know, I've become a radio rockstar. Well maybe not "rockstar" but I've officially started a radio news gig. We will see how long this business lasts because 1) it might be more work than I initially anticipated, 2) I might not pick the "right" type of news or may accidentally drop the f-bomb causing them to fire my ass, and 3) I'm not sure I fit the radio stereotypes. Yep, it's almost true, video may have killed the radiostar.

I'm not sure what I was thinking signing up for this because, as many of you know, I am not known as a linguist. I barely speak the English language correctly and generally try to play it off on an element of my "coolness." Hehehe, if there is such a thing. I just keep saying "It sounds the same to me."

So this week, I was reporting on the new Supreme Court Justice nominee Elena Kagan. Her name isn't particularly difficult to pronounce compared to names from Iraq or other foreign lands. BUT in normal LL-ism fashion, I massacred it. I think I got the first name right, but I pronounced her last name as Kegel. As in Kegel exercises that women sometimes do to....well let's just leave it at that.

So if you want to hear me rock out, tune into WNRN's live radio feed every Wednesday morning from 6-8:30 AM EST. I think you will be able to hear my sexy voice read the news and mispronounce all the important things. It should be a good time.
