snow white vs. snow white

So you may or may not have heard but they have been filming two new takes on Snow White. The casts are loaded with high powered stars. They've been filming for awhile now so the pictures are starting to be leaked/released. It couldn't be more clear how different these two films are going to be. Let's break it down:

Case and point #1: Costume Snow White

This version has Julia Roberts and classically funny man Nathan Lane (are you ache'n, yes yes yes, for some bacon, yes yes yes) and Lily Collins (from Abduction who's costar was Taylor, who also costars with Snow White part 2--see below for more of hollywood's seven degrees of separation).

Julia plays the evil queen in a wicked awesome red dress. I mean I like this costume but I'm not sure it is evil enough. Warm fuzzy white feathers and beautiful red satin. Just don't show us that big teethy smile, because that would totally ruin the whole "evil" thing we're working on here:



Also, Snow White puts on some costumes that I'm not sooo excited about. She goes to a ball and instead of bringing her 7 blue collar dwarfs, she decides to wear the iconic swan dress Bjork wore to the Oscars back in the day.

From what I can figure, Costume Snow White is going to be over the top with everything. Fashion, and colors and furniture. The next photo shows the evil queen in a wicked full dress and a golden chair. For the record, I totally owned one of these chairs in my last house. Nik made me sell it though during the last move...it did take up the entire living room. You'd think a gigantic chair made of gold would have been something the Goodwill would have embraced. I mean who doesn't want to sit in solid gold:



Case and Point #2: Badass Snow White

The second version of Snow White is a little more badass. It stars KStew, our favorite twitarded actress, who works with that wolf, who dates that other Snow White with the swan on her head (see totally 7 degrees of separation). From what I can figure out she is a sword wielding, armor-wearing badass. They've been filming in England on a beach, playing with horses and frolicking on the beach:



Wow, the badass version clearly has no fancy balls or swans or elaborate dresses. Instead Snow White's clothes are falling off, she's completely water-logged, and apparently has become a horse whisper:



Here horsey, horse! Luckily, Snow White and the Horsemen version has a white horse. Maybe it will have a knight with shiny armor that will ride bareback down the beach. That would be great, especially if he has blonde hair.

The badass Snow White also has a wicked looking queen who's going to stab you with her knife. Look out she is wicked and does not wear white feathers.

OK I'll admit, I'll probably go see both the films, reviews dependent!

the men of HP

Well the men of HP showed up for the final movie premiere in NYC this week, and they set the red carpet on fire. These boys have grown up before our eyes over the last 12 years and become something kind of sexy. Let's examine this further...



OK well we got Dan and Rupert, and who doesn't love a tried and true supporter of the GBLT community and a little ginger--but we know about them pretty well as 2/3 to the HP trinity. The surprise was that Neville Longbottom and Darco Malfoy are HOT! What happened? They both grew up and in a damn good way. Wowsa. Matt and Tom have turned into what has been coined, WILFs (wizard you would....well you know).

I mean, do we remember Matt Lewis as Neville? Nerdy, right? Not anymore. Now he is raising to the heights of those sexy brits, including Clive Owen (well not here). The internets freaked out this week with pictures of him at all the HP premiere. Look at this, wowsa, some kind of sexy with a pocket watch. So here's to his new book:



On an unrelated note, I think we are having some further confusion between the Twilight and HP series. Check out this picture of my absolute favorite, Emma, at the NYC premiere. She has some funky things going on with her eyes, in that they are borderline vampire-like. Crystals and depths that are looking into my soul:

Wow this totally blows my mind. You know how most beaches have drift wood that washes up on shore? Yeah this happens, but typically the wood is small, light and water logged. Well with the Tsunami this year, the West Coast has apparently been hit hard with drift wood on the coastal beaches. Yeah I'm not kidding. This isn't your normal drift wood type of year--and trust me, this picture is fo reals.

Case and point, check out what washed up on the shore in the Olympic Peninsula in WA state. Specifically, La Push WA, the now historic site of the Twilight movies. Holy balls, this is huge and unbelievable and beautiful all at once. I think this is just a-mazing:

not sure you heard, there was a royal wedding

So last Friday, not sure if you heard this, but a big royal wedding happened in London. Apparently over 2 million (insert evil pinky finger to the chin) people in the US watched and give more than two shits about the event--and this was a 4 AM start time EST. This is rivaling the amount of people who take the day off for the opening night of the Twilight movies. Talk about a serious drain on the economy, that is, if it wasn't for all the damn merchandise.

Despite these epic numbers, some people apparently didn't want to be there. Take this child for example....clearly forced to be present and not happy about it. Always a bridesmaid, never a princess. Tell me about, story of my life:



Well the fashion was amazing, as expected. Kate wore the McQueen infused dress that was both classic and modern. Nice work. Although I would have enjoyed more "gaga" inspiration. Also noteworthy were the hats, ohhhh the **womanity of british hats. I really wish those hats were an American tradition because I would totally rock out with some wirey feathered thing protruding from my melon. Seriously sexy.

Speaking of fashion, I couldn't help but notice that the Queen looked a little like JC minus the green eye shadow:



Yes the likeness is uncanny. SMOKIN!!!

The wedding went off without a hitch, and what I enjoyed the most is that it was personalized for the couple. Despite the news coverage and epic traditions, they seemed to squeak in some personal touches that was just for them. They looked so happy. Not forced or uncomfortable. I really liked this. However, it should be noted that there is no way in hell that my wedding will not have beer, even if some people think it is not "classy" enough (I say beer for everyone).

Also, THANK GOD the big BO announced the death of Bin Laden this week and not last, otherwise we would have had no wedding coverage. 10-yr-most-wanted-terrorist-killed VS. once-every-30-years-royal-wedding. Wonder who would have own the battle for the front page?

photo feeds

I've become a fan of these odd Tumbr photo feeds. I have run across a couple of these feeds, for example jumping twi-hotttties added all kinds of other photos. Recently, there has been one with Tom Hanks as animals (well duh because "he is the greatest actor ever") and he tweeted how honored he was. I guess I particularly enjoy when the subject's of photo feeds find them, and make comments. People actually do spend their time with editing photos??? Totally funny. Makes me giggle. There are always some good ones.

I need connections to more feeds, where from my understanding anyone can post a picture and if tagged properly will also appear on the site feed. Loves it. Suggestions?

my favorite WA lady

Well my favorite Pullman, WA old lady writes a weekly column for the local newspaper. Jean and I used to swear and eat pizza and paint her house. I love her! And this weeks' column cracked me up:

"It has been hard for me to understand the popularity of the “Twilight” series of books. I mean they are about vampires and werewolves. Let’s get real here. It’s the 21st century. I have had a hard time keeping Edward and Jacob apart.

Then I did a little Wikipedia research. It was I, who was misinformed. Werewolves and Vampires are part of the mythological or folkloric legends of every culture. One historian, Brian Frost believes that “belief in blood sucking creatures is as old as man himself.” Here I thought that Bram Stoker had invented them with his Dracula, the “quintessential vampire novel” until now. Poor Count Vad is not unique. Nor apparently are castles in Transylvania.

I had forgot that Herodotus in his Histories wrote about the Neuri tribe, living somewhere northeast of Scythia, who transform into wolves every 9 years. A vase was found in ancient Persia showing a man fight with a wolfish looking figure. I could go on and on about all the historical references to “blood sucking” creatures but I won’t bore you.

Stephenie Meyer has certainly tapped into the culture memory with her Twilight series. Every one I know who has read the books assures me they are very well written. That’s what young men used to say about Playboy when it first came out. Actually they were right, I read some of the articles in my late husband’s copies. I loved their interviews. Based on this personal experience, without doing further research into this by reading a novel or two, I am reasonably sure these books are also well written.

These novels that have captured the popular imagination are just the latest in a series of fantasy books. Mostly the Twilight series are read by young women of any age. They have replaced the Harry Potter books. Children a soon as they were at the proper reading level had their heads buried in the Potter books.

For those few of you not familiar with the books they are fictionally placed in Forks, WA. Our Forks WA! In our celebrity culture, Forks has become a cult tourist site. Further there are two male heroes. First is Edward Cullen, the Vampire and second Jacob Black, the werewolf. Mr. Black is a member of the Qiuleute tribe. Apparently Native American’s have all kinds of legends about werewolves. Now in the stories Edward is the cold aloof one and Jacob is the “hottie.” There are Edward people and Jacob people.

Are these books any different than the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Maybe in that movies adapted from them have appeared on the screen while they were still being written. My husband and I read to our son every night before he went to bed, a down time from television. As he grew the books got bigger and longer. When he was in the sixth grade we started with The Hobbit and read through to the Restoration of the King. He read every third chapter. Then so that he would understand the cultural memory that they came from, we read Beowulf. He claimed that Tolkien had stolen the story line. Try arguing with a thirteen year old, Tolkien stole the story line! One more time Beowulf lost.

All of these popular series show is that in our tech-driven society there is greater and greater need for fantasy. Where “real” isn’t hard wired. We have a greater need for play. J. K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer have certainly filled a need for us. "

Well we are now less than 7 days away from the official premiere of the 3rd installment of the twilight movie franchise (PS, 4th book will now officially be 2 movies just so we can drag this shit out for years and years to come). And the madness has officially begun with people taking days and days off of work in order to camp out for tickets. We are entered the world-craziness-status that HP has. People in LA have been camping out for the premiere for days now and have officially coined the name, Eclipse Tent City:

Can we just take a moment to put this all in perspective??? Really, using your sick days to urban camp for weeks on end?? I mean I know you brought your life size Edward cardboard cutouts, and your Jacob stuffed pillows to comfort you, but still. I won't be happy if this twi-craziness makes our economy go down the toilet. I know your buying movie tickets, but you crazy ladies still have to work your jobs too.

I spoke with my Bridawg today and officially served warning that we may have to see this movie over Memorial day weekend whilst I'm shooting a moose in Alaska. She was down and will buy us some vodka as well. That 'a girl, now we're talking!

And for those asking which team I'm on....I'm "whatever team I can get"....I don't like to limit myself!
